With a startling Paul Goldschmidt update, John Mozeliak is requesting to be fired.
The St. Louis Cardinals managed to hold on and secure a significant victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday; nevertheless, their poor performance during the most of the second half has placed them in a challenging position in the postseason rankings.
The Cardinals are currently 3.0 games out of the third Wild Card slot and 6.0 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers in first place in the NL Central. Their modest 18.0 percent chance of making the postseason is provided by FanGraphs. If they can string together a winning run, it’s not impossible, but the chances are not in their favor.
There are several reasons why the Cardinals are where they are, but Paul Goldschmidt, who has been underperforming for the most of the season, may be the one who has to take the brunt of the criticism. It’s safe to assume that at 36, he will never again reach his MVP level of play.
According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Cardinals are considering bringing back future free agent Paul Goldschmidt in 2025, or at the very least, exploring the possibility of a comeback, despite Goldschmidt’s miserable season. John Mozeliak went so far as to say that his current situation amounts to his pleading with the Cardinals to terminate him.
