Emma Raducanu REJECTS Team after injury hell… while Andy Murray also casts doubt on playing at the Games

Emma Raducanu has opted out of representing Team GB at this summer’s Olympics to focus on her recovery and performance. The 21-year-old emphasized her commitment to her health, stating, “I think I’m very single-minded and I do things my own way and at my own time. Not in a diva way, but just prioritizing my body and my health because I know if I’m fit, if I’m giving my 100 percent, I know great things are coming. I don’t think there is any need to put additional stress on my body or any risk, especially with my history.”

Similarly, Andy Murray has expressed uncertainty about his participation in the Paris Olympics, despite being named in Sunday’s British line-up. Murray, who could join Jack Draper, Dan Evans, and Cameron Norrie in the singles event for what would be his fifth and final Olympics, may only compete if he is also permitted to play in the men’s doubles. He was nominated to team up with Evans, but their pairing awaits approval from the International Tennis Federation, with a decision expected by June 25.

When asked about his participation in the singles if the doubles entry is denied, Murray responded, “I’m not 100 percent sure. It depends a little bit physically how I’m doing and a bit how the next few weeks go as well. My plan just now is to play, but it’s not straightforward.” Murray has previously indicated that he would only consider competing if he had a realistic chance of winning a medal. While achieving that in the singles might be challenging given his recent performance on clay, the doubles event could offer a more promising opportunity.

Paris could mark Murray’s final Olympic appearance, following hints of retirement. Other athletes named in Team GB’s squad include Katie Boulter for the women’s singles, Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski for the men’s doubles, and Boulter, Heather Watson, Harriet Dart, and Maia Lumsden for the women’s doubles.
