Jannik Sinner Arrives in Montreal for National Bank Open Title Defence

Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner has arrived in Montreal, where he will compete in the National Bank Open Presented by Rogers, running from August 6 to August 12. Sinner is looking to defend his title, having claimed his maiden ATP Masters 1000 victory in Canada last year by defeating Alex de Minaur 6-4, 6-1.

Currently ranked No. 1 in the PIF ATP Rankings, Sinner has had an outstanding season on hard courts, posting a 22-1 record. His only loss came in a three-set match against Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals at Indian Wells. Sinner is aiming for his third career Masters title and his second this year, following his triumph in Miami.

Sinner had withdrawn from the Paris Olympics due to tonsillitis but has since recovered. “Good to start hitting again and looking forward to building from here,” Sinner wrote on social media on Tuesday, July 31, 2024.

The additional recovery time has allowed Sinner to travel to Canada earlier than expected to begin his preparations for a successful title defence. The 22-year-old is scheduled to start hitting on Wednesday afternoon, with the tournament draw set to occur on Saturday, August 3.

Sinner will face strong competition in Montreal, with top players like Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, and Daniil Medvedev also set to participate.
