sad news; Florida gators five key players were missing after …

When four-star linebacker Myles Graham committed to the Florida Gators by signing his National Letter of Intent, Gator Nation was filled with excitement. As the highly sought-after son of former running back Earnest Graham—Florida’s fifth all-time leading rusher—Myles became the first recruit of the 2024 class and its initial signee. However, just over 24 hours later, the joy turned into concern.

Linebackers coach Jay Bateman, who had been Myles’s main recruiter, unexpectedly left Florida for a defensive coordinator role at Texas A&M. This sudden departure left the Gators and their three linebacker recruits without a coach, causing a stir right after early signing day.

In a now-deleted post on his “X” account, Earnest Graham expressed frustration over a lack of communication between the current staff and his son after Bateman’s exit.

“My son was raised to understand how the business works, but this situation brought a level of disconnect I’ve never experienced before,” he wrote. “There were no calls, no communication, and the experience was incredibly dry. That’s where I’ll start.”

Now, five months after the coaching change and his public comments, Earnest has had time to reflect. In an exclusive interview with Gators Illustrated, he shared his thoughts on new linebackers coach Ron Roberts.

“Coach Roberts is outstanding,” Earnest said. “I believe we have a great staff at UF. I don’t want anyone to misinterpret my opinion of Billy Napier—I think he’s an excellent leader. The qualities we admire in him, Coach Roberts also embodies. I appreciate how he communicates with my son.

“At the time, I was reacting as a father, expressing my views like anyone else. But I am fully committed to the Gators and very pleased with the direction of the program now.”
