SAD NEWS: Queensland Maroons key player has decided to leave…

NRL contract season continues to rumble on with over 100 players still available to negotiate and sign with rival clubs.

Joey Manu has finally determined his next move, while Zac Lomax has inked a deal with the Eels following his Dragons exit.

Elsewhere, the Panthers have lost two key players in James Fisher-Harris and Sunia Turuva, although they have gained a major star.

David Armstrong backflips on Knights, set to sign with Leigh

Newcastle have revealed they have allowed David Armstrong to backflip on his deal with the club in order to link up with the Leigh Leopards.

“The Knights have decided they will not stand in the way of David Armstrong accepting an offer to join the Leigh Leopards at the end of the 2024 season,” the club noted.

“Armstrong will play for the Knights for the remainder of the year, and we look forward to David continuing his strong form for the club.”

Damien Cook to leave the Rabbitohs and join Dragons

Damien Cook will finish his time at South Sydney at the end of the campaign in order to link up with St George Illawarra Dragons.

“The Dragons are proud to announce the signing of Damien Cook for the 2025 and 2026 seasons,” the club noted.

“A Helensburgh Tigers junior, Cook made his NRL debut for the Dragons in 2013, playing two NRL games.”

After a brief stint with Canterbury, Cook joined the Rabbitohs in 2016 and went on to establish himself as one of the best No.9s in the game.

Yet the 32-year-old was allowed to explore his options beyond next year by the Bunnies with the club looking to go down another route at dummy-half for 2025 and beyond.

Canberra have announced the triple signing of former NSW under 19s Origin stars Ethan Sanders, Myles Martin and Savelio Tamale.

Sanders has signed a three-year deal after his rumoured defection from Parramatta has finally been made official.

The halfback will be joined in the nation’s capital by Newcastle forward Myles Martin, who is also on a three-year contract.

Meanwhile, Tamale will move from St George Illawarra Dragons on a two-year deal.

“We’re really excited to have Ethan, Myles and Savelio join us in 2025 and we know they have the talent and drive to take their games to the next level,” the club’s ecruitment Manager Joel Carbone said.

“We’ve demonstrated that our club provides opportunity and a clear pathway to the NRL and we look forward to them joining us in 2025 and wish them all the best for the remainder of their seasons with their current clubs.”

Panthers re-sign Jesse and Casey McLean

Penrith have announced the re-signings of brothers and local juniors Jesse and Casey McLean.

The duo have inked long-term deals to remain at the Panthers until at least the end of the 2028 campaign.

Jesse made his NRL debut for the club last season and will be aiming to establish himself in the side over the coming years, while Casey is still yet to make his first grade debut.

“The Panthers prides itself on the built from within mantra and it’s always rewarding to see local juniors commit to the club,” Penrith’s CEO Matt Cameron said.

“Not only are the McLean brothers highly talented rugby league players, but they are also wonderful young men who live out the values of the Panthers,” the club’s General Manager of Football Shane Elford added.
