The Dolphins have signed former New South Wales and Mate Ma’a Tonga representative Tevita Pangai junior effective immediately for the remainder of the 2024 NRL season.

After leaving the Bulldogs last year to pursue a career in boxing, the 28-year-old has returned to rugby league in 2024 with Souths Logan in the Queensland Cup competition.

The Dolphins said Pangai junior will begin training with them on Monday, following their bye in Round 14.

“I am really looking forward to Tevita getting back on the field and I am so glad it is with the Dolphins,” Dolphins coach Wayne Bennett said.

“He is a good player that I have always enjoyed coaching, and I think he will be a strong addition to our squad.”

Meanwhile the Knights have granted forward Jed Cartwright an immediate release to take up a contract with Super League club Hull FC.

Cartwright, who joined the Knights this year following four seasons with the Rabbitohs, will link up with his father John who has signed on to coach Hull FC from 2025 onwards.

Star fullback Tyrell Sloan will remain at the Dragons until at least the end of the2026 season after signing a two-year contract extension.

The local junior has so far played 48 games in the Red V since debuting in 2021 and scored 25 tries.

“Tyrell’s an exciting young player who continues to learn and improve every week,” said Dragons coach Shane Flanagan.

“His efforts to improve all parts of his game this year have been really pleasing.

“We’re looking forward to seeing him continue to develop at the Dragons over the coming seasons.”

Jason Saab will be a Sea Eagles player until at least the end of the 2029 NRL Telstra Premiership season, after adding a further extension to his current contract with the club.

Already committed through until the end of 2026, Saab and Manly have agreed to terms on a new deal which adds a further three years to his stay on the Northern Beaches.

It comes days after the Sea Eagles picked up Jake Simpkin from the Wests Tigers on a deal through to the end of the 2026 season, effective immediately.
