For years, the Tigers have appeared to sleepwalk into the position they found themselves in last year, assembling one of the oldest squads Super League has seen. 15 of the original members from the Class of 2023 were over the age of 30 and everything that comes with that played its part last year.
But of their nine off-season recruits, Nixon Putt is the oldest at the age of 27 while a lot of the more seasoned pros have now departed. Whether that helps Castleford in the short-term remains to be seen but after years of stagnation and then regression, they now have the makings of a squad that can rebuild.
