BREAKING NEWS: Tyler Buchner, the quarterback for Alabama, wins the national championship in….

Though it’s for a different sport, former Alabama quarterback Tyler Buchner is receiving a national championship ring.

Buchner played for the Notre Dame lacrosse team, which won its second consecutive NCAA championship on Monday in Philadelphia after defeating Maryland 15–5. In the championship game, he entered the game as a substitute for the Fighting Irish and was given credit for one caused turnover.

Buchner, who was listed as a junior midfielder, played in 10 games for the Fighting Irish this season, helping them to a 15-1 record. In all, he recorded three shots, three assists, one point, and three ground balls—a point that is given to a team when they win the ball during live play.

After graduating from California high school in 2021, Buchner was a highly sought-after two-sport athlete. He played football for Notre Dame for two seasons, appearing in 13 games overall, before transferring to Alabama before the 2023 season. He participated in two Crimson Tide games, starting the one against South Florida, and completed 8 of 19 passes for 61 yards.

Buchner entered the transfer portal as a lacrosse player at the end of the 2023 regular season, but remained with the Alabama team up through its season-ending Rose Bowl loss to Michigan on Jan.
