GOOD NEWS: UVA FOOTBALL are bringing him back…

Virginia Tech center Lynn Kidd is transferring to Miami.

The Hurricanes will be his third ACC destination after he began his career at Clemson before three seasons at Virginia Tech, where he had a breakout season this past year, averaging 13.2 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. His 66.8 field goal percent lends the ACC and ranks fourth nationally.

“We are extremely happy to have Lynn join us because he is an incredibly gifted offensive scorer around the basket and who I considered the most improved player in the ACC this past season,” head coach Jim Larranaga said in a statement. “He has put in the work to take his game to the next level. His work ethic is unmatched and he will bring maturity and four years of ACC experience to our team.”

Kidd, who stands 6-foot-10 and weighs 235 pounds, brings much-needed size to the Hurricanes’ front court. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

Miami had a previous connection to Kidd after pursuing him in 2020 when he was at IMG Academy. Kidd was a 2021 prospect at the time, but then reclassified to 2020 and enrolled at Clemson and appeared in seven games his first season before transferring to Virginia Tech. Kidd was a four-star prospect and the 25th-best center in the 2020 class according to 247Sports. He is from Gainesville.

Kidd averaged 0.7 points and 1.1 rebounds in 10 games in 2021-22 and 5.0 points and 3.4 rebounds in 34 games with five starts in 2022-23.

During his breakout season this past year he posted impressive performances with a career-high 31 points and 11 rebounds against American, 24 and 15 against Campbell, and 21 and 9 against Wake Forest. The Hokies went 9-0 when he scored at least 17 points.

Kidd had 16 points on 8-of-8 shooting with four rebounds in a loss to Miami on Jan. 13 and had six points and 11 rebounds in another loss on Feb. 3.

Kidd is the first transfer addition for Miami, which has had five players enter the transfer portal since the season ended.
