Alan Brazil names who Liverpool players want as their next manager after Jurgen Klopp leaves

TalkSPORT presenter Alan Brazil has named the person Liverpool players want Fenway Sports Group (FSG) to appoint the club’s new manager.

As we all know, Jurgen Klopp is leaving Liverpool at the end of the season, and new club chief Michael Edwards is busy looking for a suitable successor.

Edwards fancied Xabi Alonso, but the former Liverpool midfielder has decided to stay at Bayer Leverkusen. Bayer are on the verge of winning the Bundesliga title.

As HITC revealed this week, Ruben Amorim is now a leading candidate for the Liverpool managerial role.

Amorim has already guided Sporting Lisbon to one league title in Portugal since he took over at the club in 2020, and they could become champions again this season. Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson rates him highly.

Former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur forward Alan Brazil, though, has named someone else as being popular among the Liverpool players.

The talkSPORT presenter has claimed that Liverpool players want Pepijn Lijnders as their manager after Klopp leaves.

Lijnders is now the assistant manager of Liverpool. The 41-year-old Dutch coach could leave the Reds at the end of the season and take charge of Ajax.

Alan Brazil claims Liverpool players’ stance on Pepijn Lijnders

Brazil said about Lijnders on talkSPORT (7:53 am, April 12, 2024): “I will stick by Klopp’s understudy, Pep. That’s who I am told the player wants.”

What Phil Thompson thinks of Pepijn Lijnders

Liverpool legend Phil Thompson has also previously spoken about how he would like Pepijn Lijnders to take charge of the Liverpool first team.

The pundit noted how crucial Lijnders is in coaching sessions and how he interacts with the players.

Thompson said about Lijnders on talkSPORT (9:15 am, March 8, 2024): “Pep Lijnders, listen, I have always that – I would love to have seen it.

“But, as it is, Pep is loyal to Jurgen. We know these guys move on now, they grow in a group, and so is Pep going to go where Jurgen Klopp is going to surface? And he will surface somewhere. Maybe Pep is doing that.

“I would love for him to be considered. I think he has been a massive part. People think it is all about Jurgen, but Pep has been a massive, massive help to Jurgen along the way.

“He has got great values himself. He drives this team on in the coaching sessions, so yes, I would do.”
