Jordan Henderson claimed Ajax could have hurt Aston Villa before succumbing to a red card and a 4-0 Europa Conference League defeat at Villa Park.
It was a painful return to English soil for Ajax captain Henderson, the former Liverpool stalwart, who ultimately saw his side outclassed by Villa.
They were already 2-0 down to goals from Ollie Watkins and Leon Bailey when Sivert Mannsverk was sent off shortly after the break for picking up two yellow cards.
Villa then began enjoying themselves against 10 men and added further goals from Jhon Duran and Moussa Diaby to enter Friday’s last-eight draw in fine style.

Henderson told TNT Sports after the game: “It was a tough game. We’ve been beaten quite easily in the end, which is disappointing.
