“Cleveland till death: Kareem Hunt criticizes free agency but wants to stay with Browns

The Browns were busy cleaning out their lockers Sunday afternoon as they head into the offseason after a loss to the Houston Texans the night before.

Some have seen their last game in orange and maroon, but Kareem Hunt hopes not.Hunt, a Northeast Ohio native who grew up watching the Browns, is scheduled to become a free agent after this season.

The Browns initially opted to let Hunt go after last season’s return from Nick Chubb’s season-ending knee injury, but the running back gave the Browns a major boost to the offense when he returned in week 3.

“I’m very grateful for the way he plays and his style of play. Obviously I was out until Nick got injured, but Kareem was happy to see him perform well.

We brought him in, we trained him, he looked great, took to the system immediately, played really good football for us, made big plays and scored goals,” coach Kevin Stefanski said.

“He’s given us a lot of value that way and he’s just a fighter.

I liked the way he ran, his running style gave us the big boost we needed.”

After Saturday’s loss, Hunt said he was disappointed not only that they lost the actual game, but that they failed to bring a championship to his city.

He said he would try free agency and figure out “what’s best for me and my family and everything,” but hoped a situation would arise where he would stay with the Browns.”This will always be my home.

I have a special place in my heart for them because they will be in Cleveland until the day I die,” Hunt said.

“God, there was a reason he brought me back here. I’m not closing any doors or anything, but I always think about being in Cleveland for anything.

“This is my home and always will be.”Browns general manager Andrew Berry is working hard this offseason to bring in new players and keep players under contract.

He will have to decide if Hunt is one of those who will return for a new contract.

Many fans who have embraced the hometown boy since he first signed in 2019 are hoping that Willoughby’s personal Hunt will remain in yellow and maroon.

Even if that doesn’t happen, Hunt’s ultimate hope — one he’s disappointed he couldn’t realize this year — will always remain the same.

“I think it would be okay to come back now that the opportunity has come.

This is my hometown and I want to do nothing more than help them win a Super Bowl,” Hunt said.

“No matter what happens, even if I’m playing for another team, I’ll always be happy and satisfied if they bring a championship to Cleveland. It’s my home.”

If that happens, I will join the parade and support them. “I wish the organization and the Cleveland Browns all the best and I’m excited to be a part of this long-term journey.”
