GOOD NEWS: Texas Longhorn are bringing him back…

The Oklahoma-Texas rivalry never sleeps.Among other good deeds, Sooners forward Ethan Downs was honored for his charitable work in the community during halftime of the Washington-Texas game.

It’s clear that Downs didn’t come to New Orleans just for that.

As the ESPN broadcast featured the entire Good Works team, Downs had the opportunity to cheer on the Texas pro crowd at the Caesars Superdome.

Texas fans were not happy when an Oklahoma player thundered and chanted “OU Sucks.

“Downs’ charity work was immediately forgotten by the brutal Texas mob, who probably only saw the Horns Down sign.

College football fans couldn’t help but applaud the Sooners quarterback for allowing Cojones to pull off such a troll-like move.

Oklahoma’s season, which ended with an Alamo Bowl loss to Arizona, may not go the way the Sooners hoped this year.

But the Sooners, who beat Texas earlier this season, had the last laugh in this year’s Red River rivalry.

The Sooners defensive end earned AllState Good Works team honors and let Longhorns fans know what he thought when he accepted the award.

He wanted everyone to understand his feelings.

That’s why Oklahoma’s defense shut down the Horns during Monday’s Sugar Bowl College Football Playoff semifinal between the Washington Huskies and Texas Longhorns.

Downs received the award as a member of the AllState Good Works team, which recognizes college football players who provide outstanding philanthropy and service to their communities.

Meanwhile, Texas and Washington emerged from their locker rooms at halftime at the New Orleans Superdome.

The moment may have been about the greats playing college football, but Downs, a junior at Weatherford, didn’t sit well with all Texas fans.

Downs, who had two sacks of Quinn Evers during OU’s 34-30 win over the Horns in Dallas in October, saw a burnt orange and raised his right hand above his head with his index and pinky pointing straight down.

It was a surreal moment when college football’s best civilian players waved to the crowd and seemed to turn their heads.

But Downs held his own for a while, playing proudly in front of his fans.

Downs, who earned second-team All-Big 12 honors in 2023, had 29 tackles for the Sooners this year, making him the second-leading tackler and leading the team with 4.5 quarterback sacks for the second straight year consecutive.

Downs was also a finalist for the Danny Weirfel Trophy, which honors athletic achievement and community service.

Among many other activities, Downs served as a consultant for hospice camps and other events at OU Children’s Hospital, participated in Art with a Heart to benefit the Children’s Cancer Association of Oklahoma, and taught oral language to two elementary school students .

At the state level. Representative of the Association of Christian Sportsmen.

Downs recently donated funds raised through book signings (as a NIL business) to the Connections Food and Resource Center in her hometown of Weatherford, Oklahoma.

Downs, who married last spring, organized and managed a campus-wide food drive for the OU Food Pantry, went on a mission trip to South Africa over the summer and still found time to coach youth footballers.
