Clement Lenglet’s latest performance at Aston Villa was “sad news” for Barcelona, who wanted to sell the Frenchman.
Sport described Lenglet as one of several Camp Nou players Barcelona would like to move to and explained how sales have “stagnant”.
They call the defender “another difficult man” as he continues to fight for a loan deal from Aston Villa.
He joined Unai Emery’s side last summer after signing a similar loan deal from Tottenham last season.
Although the deal did not include an option to buy, Barcelona had hoped the loan would be “final” and lead to a sale.
At the moment, that doesn’t seem likely. Lenglet hasn’t featured much for Aston Villa this season and has failed to impress recently due to the absence of Pau Torres.
In the three games he was used, he “suffered so much” that Emery had to publicly defend him in a press conference.
But despite those kind words, the French defender had no response, with Sport saying he was once again disappointed for the next two games.
It is “sad news” for the “market aspirations” of Barcelona, who had hoped to sell Lenglet and not only get some of the money, but also lose one of the team’s biggest wages, especially as the contract expires.
Until 2026.Lenglet is not in their plans, nor is manager Xavi’s, but his time at Aston Villa has yet to do anything to help hopes of a permanent move.
