Cleveland Browns Train Top CFL Pass Rusher Mathieu Betts

The Cleveland Browns drafted Canadian quarterback Mathieu Betts on Friday.

The 28-year-old led the CFL with 18 sacks last season with the BC Lions and was named the league’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player.

He was also named a CFL All-Star for the first time in his five-year professional career.

The 6-foot-1, 250-pound running back was originally a first-round pick of the 2019 Laval University Edmonton football team.

He attended training camp with the Chicago Bears before signing with the team and recorded one tackle, two sacks and a forced fumble as a CFL rookie.

Betts left the Elks as a free agent after a disappointing 2021 season and signed a two-year deal with BC.

He quickly stood out on the West Coast, recording 25 sacks in 36 regular season games with the Lions.

The Montreal native was a highly touted U Sports prospect when he won two Vanier Cups with the Rouge et Or and J.

He received the P.Metras Trophy three times as the best player in the country.

He remains the only player to win this award three years in a row.Betts is currently scheduled to become a free agent in February 2024.

He worked out with the Detroit Lions earlier this week.
