Douglas Luiz ‘gives away’ Aston Villa team news amid Pau Torres injury

Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz has seemingly leaked some team news early ahead of Friday’s Premier League clash against Sheffield United, unveiling that teammate Pau Torres is unavailable.

Previously just an injury doubt after going off in pain late on during the 2-1 win at Brentford, Pau was hoped to be passed fit but it seems that’s no longer the case.

Luiz, in a rather bizarre fashion, was asked about the defender’s condition by a fan during a Twitch stream and he admitted there would be no appearance from Pau on Friday.

“Pau is injured. He’s not ready for Friday,” Luiz said, prompting a slight meltdown from Villa fans and Fantasy Premier League players alike.

Pau hasn’t missed a single league game all season and has been on the field for all but 31 minutes, so his absence will be felt strongly if Luiz is right with what he says.

The likely impact on team selection would be Ezri Konsa moving from right-back to centre-back and Matty Cash switching the right flank for the full-back spot.

Clement Lenglet is another option, meanwhile, if Unai Emery would prefer having a left-footed player come in as a like-for-like replacement.
