Will Dan Campbell win NFL Coach of the Year?

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell addresses the media after the NFL football game against the Detroit Lions, Monday, Oct. 30, 2023, in Detroit.

Hey Michigan sports fans,

My name is Ben Fawkes and welcome back to the sixth week of my sports betting mailbag.

I’ve been in the sports betting industry since 2010. Over the last decade, I have won more than I’ve lost and I have learned even more along the way.

The NFL playoff picture is slowly beginning to form, so it’s the perfect time to dive in and discuss NFL awards frontrunners.

If you have a question, feel free to DM me at @BFawkes22 on X. I hope you enjoyed last week’s mailbag where we looked at some betting trends of the 2023 NFL season.

Dan Campbell is currently +200 to win NFL Coach of the Year. Do you think he can pull it off ?

Fred from Forest Park

He was the favorite at +800 odds at BetMGM Sportsbook heading into the season, Fred — and he’s only strengthened his case. He’s the current favorite at BetMGM with +200 odds and holds both the most bets (37%) and total dollars wagered (40%) for any NFL coach.

BetMGM will certainly be rooting against him, as Campbell represents their biggest liability in the market. As it stands right now, his biggest competition is from Texans coach DeMeco Ryans (+250, BetMGM) and Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel (+450, BetMGM).

If the Houston Texans (projected win total of 5.5) make the postseason with a rookie quarterback and rookie head coach, it’s going to be tough not to give the award to Ryans.

By the same token, if the Dolphins win the AFC East and grab the No. 1 seed (and their game against Baltimore on December 31st may decide that), it will be tough not to vote for McDaniel.

It’s going to be a close race, but Campbell has as good a chance as anyone to win it. And Detroit still has a chance to get the NFC’s No. 1 seed as well.
