Real Madrid have completed a deal worth over £1m for the Reading wonderkid.Real Madrid are discussing a £1million deal for Reading’s teenage defender Kylan Vickers.

The 2004-born Royals Academy graduate, who turns 19 later this month, has been a shining light in what has been another difficult campaign for Reading, both on and off the pitch.

Vickers scored three goals and provided three assists in 18 appearances in all competitions for Reading senior in the 2023–24 season.

Primarily a centre-forward, Vickers is comfortable on either flank and has featured regularly for Ruben Seles’ side in Ligue 1, the EFL Cup and the EFL Trophy, having only signed a professional contract in the summer.

Vickers’ highlights include the winner in a 2-1 win over title-chasing Bolton Wanderers in September and the goal in a 5-2 EFL Trophy win against Arsenal’s Under-21s.

Real Madrid have completed a deal worth over £1m for the Reading wonderkid.

According to The Sun, Vickers’ performances in the third tier of English football have attracted the attention of La Liga giants Real Madrid, who are in talks to reduce the striker’s price. Los Blancos are believed to be one of the teams chasing Vickers, who has been tracked by Arsenal, Celtic, Leicester City and Norwich City in recent months.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side are expected to finish in the top four after opening talks with Reading last week and a £1million fee is being mooted.

The Royals would likely want to include a sell-on clause in any deal to send Vickers to the Bernabeu, but given Reading’s cash needs, there is hope that a deal will be struck.

However, Vickers will not join Ancelotti’s first team Real Madrid straight away, instead plying his trade with the Castilla side managed by legendary former Real striker Raul.

There are hopes that once the 18-year-old is ready to break into the first team, he could follow a similar path to Jude Bellingham, who has been in action at Madrid since leaving Borussia Dortmund last summer.

The former Birmingham City youth player scored his 16th goal of the season in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Real Betis to limit Los Blancos to a point before Aitor Ruibal’s stunning reply.

Real remain top of the table despite dropping two points under Manuel Pellegrini, but could be relegated if surprise package Girona pull off a shock win over Barcelona on Sunday night.

Ancelotti’s men will focus on seeing off United in their Champions League away trip to Berlin on Tuesday before resuming their La Liga duties at Villarreal next Sunday evening.
