How the Browns defense can stop the Jaguars offense

The Browns defense has a good chance to return to their dominant ways in front of the Browns’ home crowd.

Cleveland BrownsCleveland BrownsThe Jaguars offense suffered two major injuries to its offensive unit on Monday night. Wide receiver Christian Kirk suffered a serious injury that will sideline him for at least eight weeks.

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence suffered a badly sprained ankle and is expected to be out for Sunday’s game in Cleveland.Depending on who the Jaguars center is, they will have two separate assignments.

If Lawrence can step up, he will be much more effective than CJ Beathard leading the team.

Either way, the Browns defense needs to show up and dominate. Browns All-Pro cornerback Denzel Ward is poised to join the secondary this week.

They also get Cam Mitchell off injured reserve and give the Browns bench a major upgrade.

Defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz criticized the Browns’ defensive line for not having a sack in the past two games.

This defensive group is built around the ability to get to the quarterback, so expect the defensive line to feature some healthy additions in Sunday’s game.

Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY SportsWith a healthy Trevor Lawrence, the Jaguars offense has been phenomenal this year.

They are the 12th best rushing team in the NFL, averaging 346 yards and 24 points per game.

Their passing game has been their driving force all year.

They are 9th in the league with 243 yards per game and have a big play threat in their receiving core.

Calvin Ridley is a great addition to this team. He had 51 catches for 689 yards and five touchdowns.

He is certainly on track to have the best season of his career in 2020.

Without Chrisitan Kirk, Ridley will have to play a big role on Sunday. Also, make Evan Engram a central part of the Jaguars game plan.

Engram has 73 catches for 606 yards and caught his first all season last week.

The Jaguar Run has left a lot to be desired this season.

They are the 21st team in the league and are averaging just 103 yards per game.

Their rushing attack is led by sophomore Travis Eitenn, who is on pace for 1,000 yards and eight touchdowns this year.

For the Browns, priorities are priorities. Regardless of who chokes the Jaguars, Cleveland shouldn’t choke them until Sunday.

That starts with shutting down the run game and allowing healthy secondary players to cover passes.

It will be up to the Browns defense to take their chances.
