Will Browns Start Expanding Dorian Thompson-Robinson’s Repertoire by Using His Mobility More?
Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson rushed for over 1,800 yards and 28 touchdowns in his college career at UCLA.
As the Cleveland Browns prepare to go on the road to take on the Broncos in Denver on Sunday, Browns rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson hopes to build on his game-winning drive last Sunday against the Steelers in the 13-10 win.
With the game tied 10-10, Thompson-Robinson led the Browns on the drive to get the winning field goal with two seconds to play as he was 4-of-4 for 39 yards on the drive.
On Wednesday, Thompson-Robinson was asked how he felt he played, overall, in his second start.
“Obviously, you’re going to have things every week you need to clean up,” he said on Wednesday. “I think the biggest thing is offense. We played on time, and tried to negate their rushes as much as possible.
I think TJ (Watt) only had one sack, and had a couple quarterback hits on me, but other than that, I think we played on time both in the pass game and in the run game.
“Stuck with it, at times it’s not going to be easy, especially going against a defense like that,” he said. “So, second half, getting a couple of three and outs and you know we’re working to fix those this week, but ultimately I was happy with the game.”
Thompson-Robinson said he hopes to keep the momentum going from the final drive.
“I think it’s just looking back at what I did last Sunday, just like how I did week four – what I did good and then what I need to correct and going out here on practice on Wednesday and going out there and correcting it,” he said.
“So, I don’t think there’s any secret formula just going out there, putting the work in for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and then going out there and making sure you’re locked in on Sunday.”
Against the Steelers, Thompson-Robinson was 24-of-43 (.558) for 165 yards with one interception. He also was victimized by a number of dropped passes. He also rushed three times for 20 yards.
On the season, Thompson-Robinson is 44-of-80 for 295 yards (55 pct.) with no touchdowns and four interceptions. His rating is just 42.4.
Thompson-Robinson said that he’s feeling more and more comfortable as each week goes along.
“I think you just get more and more comfortable with the game,” he said. “It’s a different style of playing in the NFL from college.
So, I think if I can just keep progressing with how I’m working with the offense, my reads, my timing with the receivers and running backs and tight ends, I think I’ll be all right.
But just working, knowing whatever AVP or Coach (Kevin) Stefanski or Ashton (Grant) has for me out there at practice.”
Kevin Stefanski said being the quarterback requires leadership and he is seeing that in Thompson-Robinson.
