Chiefs star Travis Kelce jokes about Brown’s situation at quarterback

Kansas City Chiefs star TE Travis Kelce joked about the Browns quarterback situation.

Travis Kelce made a joke about the Cleveland Browns quarterback situation as he made a surprise appearance on Monday Night Countdown.

The Kansas City Chiefs star burst onto the ESPN set before a game with the Philadelphia Eagles and asked Robert Griffin III if he would be ready for Cleveland.

“What’s wrong, big dog? You’re playing Cleveland or something!’ Kelce asked Griffin, who made a public pitch to the Browns, to sign him.

“I don’t know. They have a Super Bowl MVP now,” Griffin said with a laugh, referring to the Browns’ signing of Joe Flacco.

It was all in good fun for Kelce, who attended Cleveland Heights High School and still has a love for her hometown team.

Her mother, Donna, even said that Kelce dreamed of playing for the Browns.

“She always wanted to play there. But it just didn’t happen,” Kelce’s mother, Donna, told WKYC in 2021. “It is what it is.”

Robert Griffin was seriously considering signing with the Browns

Robert Griffin III wanted to join the Cleveland Browns.

Griffin might have laughed with Kelce on Monday, but he was serious when he made his speech to the Browns after Deshaun Watson suffered a season-ending shoulder injury.

“The Browns should start me at quarterback,” Griffin said Nov. 16 on his “RG3 and The Ones” podcast.

“First, at 33, I understand the game better than I ever have in my entire career.” I know how to slide and I know when to slide.

This was a big deal during my eight years in the NFL. But I learned. I learned from my mistakes and I’m ready to show that I can do it.

Griffin hasn’t played in an NFL game since 2020, when he was Lamar Jackson’s backup with the Baltimore Ravens.

He works full-time as an analyst for ESPN, but emphasizes that he still possesses exceptional athletic skills.

Griffin said he can still run a 4.3-second 40-yard dash and throw the ball 80 yards.
The Browns make the signing of Joe Flacco official

With so many quarterback injuries across the league, perhaps Griffin will eventually get the call to leave the broadcast booth.

However, it won’t be with the Browns, who have their man in Flacco.

The Browns’ decision to sign Flacco was announced Sunday but made official Monday. Flacco appeared in 183 games with 180 starts in stints with the Ravens (2008-18), Broncos (2019) and New York Jets (2020-22).

Flacco has completed 3,881 of 6,299 career passes (61.6%) with 232 touchdowns and 147 interceptions. As a starter, he posted a record of 99-81 (.550).

Flacco won’t step into the starting quarterback role for the 7-3 Browns, at least not right away. He was signed to the practice squad and the Browns will continue to play against the Denver Broncos along with rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson.

“Dorian will start and Joe’s role will be to support this team,” Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said. “When we arrived here we were able to bring in a guy with a lot of experience. It will be great for that room.

He will be great for this team.”

The Browns have won three in a row and will look to keep the momentum going against the Broncos, who have wins in their last four games.

Denver is a 1.5-point favorite for the matchup.
