Cleveland Browns sign veteran quarterback Joe Flacco, seek promotion to active roster: strategic move amid Deshaun Watson’s season-ending injury

Joe Flacco, a veteran quarterback, was signed to the practice squad by the Cleveland Browns on Monday, a major move predicted by insiders like Field Yates and ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Flacco is rumored to be added to the active roster soon.

This calculated move was made in response to the Browns meeting on Friday to address the absence of Deshaun Watson.

Watson will miss the remainder of the season with a shoulder injury.

What’s notable is that the team didn’t explore any other quarterback alternatives before making the deal; Instead, the focus was solely on Flacco’s recovery.

Rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson picked up the Browns’ 13-10 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

Thompson-Robinson commanded a key offense that ended with the game-winning field goal in the final seconds, despite completing 24 of 43 passes for 165 yards and an interception.

Another player on the Browns roster is quarterback PJ Walker.

Joe Flacco brings a wealth of experience to Cleveland with career totals of 42,320 passing yards and 232 touchdowns.

Interestingly, he was named Super Bowl MVP in 2013 when he played for the Baltimore Ravens.

Flacco, 38, last started a game for the New York Jets during the 2022 season.

In Week 2 against Cleveland, he showed his mettle by leading an impressive fourth-quarter comeback and throwing four touchdown passes, including the game-winning pass to Garrett Wilson with just 22 seconds left.

The Browns, now 7-3, prepare for a tough road game against the Denver Broncos next weekend.

Acquiring Joe Flacco gives their quarterback group the depth and experience they need to win the rest of the season.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson’s message from Deshaun Watson during Browns victory

The Cleveland Browns finally found the diamond in the rough after devastating injuries to their roster.

They won’t see Nick Chubb for the rest of their campaign and the timeline for Deshaun Watson still seems vague.

Despite all that, Dorian Thompson-Robinson stood up and shined, outplaying Kenny Pickett and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

This could all be due to their QB1’s sage wisdom amid his injury, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

“Deshaun was next to me most of the second half. Just consoling me, making sure I was okay, motivating me, and letting me know, “Hey, I’ve been here before, and you’re going to give it another try.” And I certainly did.

And I was able to use it to my advantage,” is how Dorian Thompson-Robinson described the last few weeks between him and Deshaun Watson.

The efforts of both Browns quarterbacks paid off as they battled the Steelers. Thompson-Robinson recorded 165 passing yards, eclipsing Kenny Pickett’s 106.

However, he still leaves a lot to be desired in his playing style. He threw one interception and it took him just 43 pass attempts to accumulate 24 completions.

There is still a lot of time to improve, but she must do it quickly. Their next opponents are the amazing Denver Broncos with veterans like Sean Payton and Russell Wilson in the lead.

The Browns hope to improve to an eight-win record to realize their postseason hopes when spring arrives.

Can Thompson-Robinson get them there amidst these devastating injuries?
