West Ham have sign £20m int’l ace in January, Steidten loves him
West Ham United are interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen sensation Jonathan Tah in January in a £20m deal, according to The Sun.
Writing on their website (15 November), the news outlet report that Newcastle and Manchester United are also interested in the 6ft 5′ central defender who represents Germany at international level.
West Ham may have an advantage in the race for the 27-year-old thanks to Tim Steidten, their technical director, who worked with Tah during their time together in Leverkusen.
“Newcastle are weighing up a January move for Bayer Leverkusen’s £20m-rated defender Jonathan Tah,” they wrote.
“Manchester United and West Ham are among the clubs all around Europe who also like the look of the German international and Newcastle could face stiff competition.”
Tah is a huge talent and a quality central defender undoubtedly, and with the question marks around our squad heading into January this could be a really shrewd bit of business.
Right now Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd are the first-choice defenders in the heart of the team, with Angelo Ogbonna and Dinos Mavropanos providing cover immediately.
But Zouma and Aguerd have been linked with moves away to Saudi Arabia during the winter window, and Ogbonna is getting on a bit now which means bolstering the squad could be a necessity.
Using Steidten’s connections and wide network worked well in the summer with the signings of Edson Alvarez and Mohammed Kudus, and this could be another situation where we need to do that to get a deal done ahead of the competition.
Tah would likely push for a regular starting place here and at £20m would be an absolute bargain, so this is definitely one to watch going forward.
