Kuldeep Yadav outfoxed Jos Buttler with a brilliant delivery in the group match

Former England all-rounder Paul Collingwood hailed the Indian bowlers’ relentless aggression during the Rohit Sharma-led side’s 100-run win over England in the World Cup 2023 group match. Collingwood highlighted the intensity in the Lucknow stands and applauded Kuldeep Yadav’s outstanding delivery to Jos Buttler, potentially naming his play the ‘ball of the tournament’.

India extended their unbeaten streak in the World Cup 2023 with a 100-run victory in a low-scoring group match against England, who are facing a premature exit following their fifth defeat in six group matches on Sunday.

“Yeah, look, it’s it’s kind of wow, isn’t it? When you’re watching it here almost in disbelief of what’s going on and the Indian bowlers say, We’re absolutely relentless, the lines and the lunch once they, got that first wicket and you heard the crowd. And when you can hear the crowd on TV, there’s obviously an amazing atmosphere there, and it’s almost like having the 12th man,” Paul Collingwood said on Star Sports.

Jasprit Bumrah initiated the onslaught by dismissing two English batsmen in consecutive deliveries, multiplying the problems for an already struggling England side. Both Ben Stokes and Joe Root were dismissed without scoring a run, and Dawid Malan (16) and Jonny Bairstow (14) also failed to make significant contributions with the bat.

With the responsibility of rebuilding the innings falling on Jos Buttler and Moeen Ali, England faced a challenging task to chase down a modest target of 230 runs. Their situation worsened when spinner Kuldeep Yadav dashed their hopes with a remarkable delivery to dismiss Buttler. In the 16th over, Kuldeep, who was generating considerable spin from the pitch, bowled a magnificent delivery. Bowling from over the wicket, he pitched the ball wide outside the off-stump and extracted a sharp turn that surprised the batsman. Buttler, who had committed to a shot, had to readjust but failed to adapt to the unexpected turn, resulting in the ball narrowly missing his edge and hitting the stumps.

“And I just thought the ball is once they got England’s first wicket, they just didn’t give them a sniff. After that, I thought about the accuracy, the skill level, that we get movement out of the pitch and then you thought maybe the spinners would come on and maybe they’ll just stick it on, but no cold. Kuldeep comes up with probably the ball of the tournament to Jos Buttler,” Collingwood added.
