Liverpool Euro rivals round-up: Liverpool and another Premier League side have been linked with a move for French superstar Kylian Mbappé, while Barcelona eye a Napoli ace.
Liverpool, like every other club side, take a back seat for the time being as the international break is well underway.
The Reds have a host of players away representing their nations in Euro 2024 and World Cup 2026 qualifiers across the globe. Yet that doesn’t mean the club game fades into the background entirely. There are still issues and news going on from around Europe within club football.
Liverpool has had a very good start to the season, with Jürgen Klopp’s semi-new-look side sitting only three points behind surprise league leaders Tottenham.
Klopp will no doubt be happy with the integration of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, while Ryan Gravenberch will take time to find his feet completely but is already showing very good signs.
Of course, the season is long and a lot can change in the coming months ahead, but Klopp will be happy with how things have gone and where Liverpool are, especially in comparison to this time last season. English duo could move for Kylian Mbappé
Most have assumed for years now that French superstar Kylian Mbappé will trade the lights of Paris for the Spanish capital Madrid at some point in his career. Mbappé has told his current side Paris Saint-Germain that he intends to leave the club next summer on a free transfer.
However, according to journalist Luke Edwards of The Telegraph, both Liverpool and Manchester City could make efforts to sway the player into moving to England instead. Liverpool has been linked to Mbappé on and off for years, while City would be an interesting proposition considering they have the financial resources to entice Mbappé to the Premier League.
“I think the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool, maybe they will try and come in for him in January,” Edwards told the BBC’s Football Gossip Daily podcast. “I don’t think it’s beyond the realms of possibility for sure. I think all signposts kind of point to him ending up at Real Madrid though.”
Barcelona eyes Napoli ace Liverpool wanted
Barcelona is reportedly eyeing up a move for Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski upon the expiration of his contract next summer. That’s according to the Spanish website Fichajes, which states that Barca could sign Zielinski on a free.
The Pole is an intriguing option for the Catalans considering their fragile financial state, which has left the club mainly signing free agents or players for small amounts of money.
Zielinski played a pivotal role for Napoli in their first Scudetto for 33 years last season, but the 29-year-old’s contract in southern Italy may not be renewed, leaving the door open for Barca to sign him.
