I’m tired of referees costing Liverpool and Howard Webb should pay the pricebills

Blood red: “I love Klopp”  Roberto De Zerbi on his relationship with the Liverpool manager.

I actually thought Anthony Taylor performed well in the match against Brighton on Sunday, but the match ended with even more questions hanging over the referees.

The first topic of conversation was Virgil van Dijk’s handball call, but it wasn’t a penalty. It’s impossible.

The ball bounced off his leg and hand, so it’s not even a problem. We then come to the circumstances surrounding Liverpool’s penalty and the fact that Brighton midfielder Pascal Gross was not penalized for denying a clear chance to score.

This incident reminded me of an incident I was involved in as a Tranmere Rovers player during the second leg of the League Cup semi-final second leg against Aston Villa. Goalkeeper Mark Bosnich tripped me in the penalty area and he should have been sent off according to the rules of the game.

I took the penalty to make it 1-1, but we ended up losing on penalties. barrage and Bosnich then saved three penalties.

Personally I didn’t mind because I took the penalty and I never like to see anyone sent off, but rules are rules.

So I can’t understand how Gross didn’t even get a yellow card for taking out Dominik Szoboszlai. Craig Pawson from VAR needs to tell the referee to take a look, it’s as simple as that.

We didn’t deserve to win the game overall, and a draw was probably fair, but we’re still hurt by other people’s bad decisions.

We’ve had Mac Allister’s red card against Bournemouth, Van Dijk’s sending off at Newcastle, the absolute chaos of the game against Tottenham and now this.

At the end of the match we always talk about referees, VAR, and it shouldn’t be like that.

Referees must take their time to make the right decision. Look at Curtis Jones’ red card, they certainly took their time.

To make matters worse, on Sunday night against Arsenal we saw Manchester City midfielder Mateo Kovacic escape two red cards in a row.

It was incredible, incredible. It was even more obvious than the Brighton incident where we were on the wrong side.

Kovacic should have received two yellow cards, one of which came close to a red, and got away with it. The first tackle shouldn’t even have gone to VAR, it was a clear red card. It was shocking but not surprising.

I would get sent off most weeks if I worked as a coach with VAR in the game. I’ve been fired as a coach a few times because I’m passionate about the game.

What I would say is that Howard Webb’s return to England to become umpire-in-chief hasn’t solved all the bad decisions on a weekly basis.

Is he the right man for this job? If I were his manager, I would tell him that he has until the end of the season to fix this otherwise he will be fired.

Absolute. He is the figure above all the referees and if a coach has a bad team he loses his job. It shouldn’t be any different for him. If he can’t fix it, he has to leave.
