News Now: Carlton are in trouble …..

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA – JUNE 10: (L-R) Harry McKay, Caleb Marchbank and Lachie Plowman of the Blues celebrate during the 2022 AFL Round 13 match between the Essendon Bombers and the Carlton Blues at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on June 10, 2022 in Melbourne, Australia.

Carlton defender Caleb Marchbank appears set to call Princes Park home for another season following reports the defender has inked a new one-year deal with the Blues.

After beginning his AFL days with the Giants, the former pick No.6 made his way south, joining the Blues during the 2016 trade period after seven appearances in charcoal and orange.

And though injury has hampered the Benalla native for much of his time spent in Navy Blue, the key defender has battled manfully to play 53 games for the Baggers across the past seven seasons – including each of Carlton’s three finals this season.

With multiple knee injuries and a calf complain keeping Marchbank sidelined for the entirety of the 2020 and 2021 seasons, Carlton has been understandably cautious regarding the stopper’s health.

However, as reported by Josh Gabelich of AFL Media, the 26-year-old’s form shown throughout September has seen him earn a new deal on Royal Parade.

Following Marchbak’s recommitment and the departures of Ed Curnow, Josh Honey, Lochie O’Brien, Sam Philp and Lachie Plowman, the injury-plagued David Cuningham, Sam Durdin and Paddy Dow remain the only players without deals to stay on at Princes Park.

Dow has long been linked with a crosstown move to reunite with Stephen Silvagni at St Kilda this off-season.
