Hendrick: ‘Darren England should be fired and all his matches investigated’

Daily Red Podcast – Dave Hendricks’ daily digest of all things Liverpool FC.

The mainstream media who make fun of Liverpool don’t understand what’s important

Dave looks back at the Spurs game when the Reds suffered a 2-1 defeat, unfortunately that’s not even half the story.

Dave looks at the controversy surrounding the match, with PGMOL admitting there was “human error” during the match as Luis Diaz was wrongly disallowed a goal.

Liverpool released a statement promising further action on the issue, which caused mixed reactions, with journalists particularly questioning the statement.

How Liverpool’s red card could take inspiration from Tottenham’s shock challenge

With Liverpool appealing the red card decision, we can look back at a much worse tackle involving a Tottenham player.

Liverpool are set to appeal the red card given to Curtis Jones against Tottenham this weekend, and should be successful if we look back at a similar incident in the past.

During last weekend’s action-packed affair, Jurgen Klopp saw two of his men dismissed for red cards, and both men had reason to complain given the nature of the broadcasts.

Diogo Jota received two yellow cards, but on the first – on the second viewing –

Destiny Udogie tripped, rather than Jota committing the foul. But in the second, Jones made a deal with Yves Bissouma’s ankle after making a 50/50 tackle.

What we saw at second glance was that Jones initially made contact with the ball, but when Simon Hooper was sent to the VAR monitor to observe the foul in slow motion, the first thing he  view was a still image of Jones’ boot on Tottenham.

The player’s ankle – which certainly doesn’t tell the whole story.

As Klopp said after the match: “It looks different in slow motion.” And the Liverpool manager was certainly right when he explained that it was not a ‘bad tackle’.

“Curtis steps on the ball. Put your foot on the ball and then roll over and kick your legs, whatever you want to do with it.

You see it in slow motion and you think, “That could be a red card.”

“If you’re a footballer, I’m not sure you would do that. It wasn’t a bad tackle. He stepped on the ball and passed over it.

Looking back at 2019, the football landscape was very different when it came to penalties, VAR and refereeing instructions on how the match should play out.

However, Heung-Min Son received a red card this season for a tackle on Andre Gomes which resulted in the Everton player suffering a fracture.

It was a challenge that kept Gomes out for 109 days and caused him to miss a total of 19 games for club and country – and it was an injury that certainly blighted his career thereafter.

Immediately after the accident, the son was seen in tears.
