Spur New: After his “awful” performance last night, Spurs will be happy they didn’t recruit a £150,000 weekly player. – TBR View

Tottenham Hotspur will no doubt be pleased they did nothing to re-sign Clement Lenglet after his performance last night.

Tottenham had the defender on loan to the club last season and numerous reports over the summer suggested they were tempted to bring him back to north London.

Instead, the centre-back ended up with fellow Premier League side Aston Villa.

He played their Europa League conference match last night and they lost.

It was not a good performance from the French defender and Tottenham will no doubt be very happy not to have signed him this summer.

Last night Lenglet was involved in a 3-2 defeat against Aston Villa, his current club, and would no doubt have been disappointed with his performance.

In the match, the £150,000-a-week player was rated 6.4 out of 10 and this was one of his team’s worst on-field ratings.

He managed only one tackle and lost his only aerial duel. Meanwhile, he lost possession six times that night.

The media also rated him poorly and called his performance “terrible”.

This was his first appearance for his new club and he will no doubt take a long time to break into the first team in the future.

Tottenham signed defender Micky van de Ven this summer and he has already become a very popular player with fans.

They definitely made the right choice and Lenglet couldn’t have offered them anything better than what they currently have.
