Liverpool ‘confident’ of receiving confirmation despite updates from Barca and Real

Liverpool are hoping to secure the long-term future of one of the team’s most valuable assets despite interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Reds vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold has established himself as a fan favorite since his debut in 2017 and the academy graduate has already made over 270 appearances for his hometown club in all competitions.

The 24-year-old has helped the club win numerous honors over the past seven years, including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

He was selected in the PFA Team of the Season three times and the Champions League Team of the Season twice.

Alexander-Arnold is considered one of the most creative players in world football, despite playing as a right-back.

He is considered the main threat from free kicks and corners, and only Kevin De Bruyne can boast more assists in the Premier League since the defender played.

His club form has also earned him 20 caps at international level, in a competitive era which has also seen players such as Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier and Reece James battle for a starting place.

Alexander-Arnold’s importance to Liverpool has led to him being an ever-present in Jurgen Klopp’s first team, but has also attracted interest from European giants such as Barcelona and Real Madrid, according to 90min.

The Spanish rivals are both linked with player moves as they look to regain the Champions League title and both teams are known for playing up.

Alexander-Arnold’s most recent contract extension was signed in 2021 and his current contract runs until the summer of 2025.

But Liverpool are keen to tie the player down to a longer-term deal and, according to Team Talk, his £250,000-a-week salary is likely to be in line with some of the world’s best full-backs.

The right-back has had a good start to the season for the Reds, featuring in three of his side’s first four games, recording an assist and a goal.

Alexander-Arnold is currently out with a hamstring injury, but it remains to be seen whether he will be fit for his side’s upcoming Premier League tests at home to West Ham.
