The 31-year-old left the U’s by mutual consent last month after injury cut short his first season at the club.

Wildschut signed for United last summer on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee from Bulgarian side CSKA Sofia, but a hamstring injury sustained in pre-season saw him out for five months.

He has made 24 appearances in all competitions, scoring once in the 2-1 win at home to Ipswich Town.

However, the Suriname international failed to make the matchday squad this season and left by mutual consent on 18 August.

He has now been signed by the Greeks, currently third in the table, on a short-term deal until January.

Manager Gary Caldwell worked with Wildschut during his time at Wigan Athletic.

Caldwell told the Grecians website: “I’m really happy to have Yanic because I’ve already signed him.

He has been sensational for us and we have had some lovely times together, which means the bond will last a lifetime.

“The opportunity presented itself in the middle of our injury crisis and I spoke to Yanic and it was like fate could have made it come.”

He has played in several positions and will provide speed and strength to the front line.

“I get along very well with him and I know how to bring the best out of him.

He is a wide player who we can ask to be aggressive and take risks, and we will give him that trust.

“The U’s will welcome the Greeks to the Kassam Stadium next Saturday.
