This summer, players from Forest were sought after by Leeds, Sheffield United, and Burnley.

Burnley, Leeds and Sheffield United all considered signing Jonjo Shelvey from Nottingham Forest this summer.

The Reds player is now set to leave the club on loan after a nightmare time of things at the City Ground.

According to John Percy of The Telegraph, the 31-year-old is now set to move to Turkey ahead of Friday’s deadline.

The player has made just eight appearances for the Reds since signing in January and will sign for Rizespor.

Forest have been hoping to move Shelvey on all summer. He took no part in pre-season training with the Reds and he spent the close season playing friendlies with the B-Team.

Forest have now named their squad for the forthcoming campaign.

Five players have been named who count as under-21 stars so essentially, Forest have a realistic 30-man squad.

Shelvey has proved a disastrous signing for Forest.

He fell out with Cooper ahead of a 3-2 defeat at Anfield last April when Shelvey took offence to only being named on the substitutes bench.

Things could have been different, however. It’s now claimed that Leeds, Sheffield United and Burnley all considered making a move for the experienced player during the transfer window.

Forest midfielder Shelvey was wanted by Leeds, Sheffield United and Burnley

Shelvey earns about £70,000-a-week at Forest and frankly, it looked as though they were lumbered with him. Now, however, it looks as though the player has got a way out.

Forest signed a plethora of players in the summer.

A total of 13 new signings arrived and it was no surprise to see Shelvey omitted from the 25-man squad when it was named.

Despite his significant wage packet, it’s surprising that nobody in England took a chance on him.

He’d have probably done a job for all three of the clubs but in the end, they pursued other options.
