Jermain Defoe and Troy Deeney spoke how talented midfielder Etienne Capu was in Tottenham Hotspur and Watford during his stay.

The couple spoke in the podcast of football firms and remembered their time with the Frenchman.

Etienne Capoue was one of the “Gareth Bale Seven”, which was made up of players who were signed with the money that Tottenham had applied by selling the Welser to Real Madrid.

The wait was that the sale of Bale would help refresh the rest of the trace of André Villas-Boas.
His recruitment this summer was more miss than Hit,Christian Eriksen being the most successful during this transfer window.

Tottenham fans never saw the best of Roberto Soldado, Paulinho and Vlad Chiriches in North London.

Erik Lamela and Nacer Chadli’s longevity at the club means they can be seen in a positive light by Spurs supporters.

However, Etienne Capoue was a talented enigma, with Jermain Defoe admitting he was a great player despite the many rows following his £9.4million move.

That could have been the reason why the Frenchman made just 35 appearances for the club in two seasons.

He ended up at Watford, where Deeney shared his thoughts on the 35-year-old. Defoe shares memories of the talented Capoue

Speaking about players they had feuded with in the past, Deeney mentioned Capoue and said: ‘No one backs down, but no one comes in with the intention of hurting the other person.

I’m with you, you’re with me and in the end that fueled us.
“Like I said, it’s about [Etienne Capoue] Caps, if we look at both of us morally, we’re the same kind of person.

“He wants to win, he loves his family just like me, but our personalities are so different. Did you play with Etienne at Tottenham?”

Jermain Defoe replied: “Yes. He’s good, right?

Deeney replied: “How talented is he?” It’s a joke,” before Defoe added: “Oh my God. I always argued with him at Tottenham, but he fights back.

Deeney concluded: “Incredible player, probably the best I’ve played with because he had so much in him.”

Tottenham fans never tired of seeing the talented Capoue described by Deeney and Defoe.
He made almost 200 appearances for Watford before moving to Villarreal in 2021.

The Frenchman with seven caps was a victim of circumstances at Spurs and Mauricio Pochettino ended up preferring the promising Ryan Mason.

Capoue had the potential to be a very solid player for Spurs in the long term, but at this stage of his career he couldn’t afford to sit on the bench.
