Liverpool have already signed Salah’s replacement as interest has been shown in the winger

Your morning Liverpool FC overview focuses on two stories about Mohamed Salah’s possible replacements: inside and outside

Ben Doak should have the chance to replace Mohamed Salah in the Europa League

Liverpool have quietly signed an “exceptional” talent who can replace Mohamed Salah this season

It’s an exclamation that no doubt echoed the thoughts of those watching the Liverpool fans – and Jurgen Klopp.

“Imagine a fully fit Ben Doak!” Scotland Under-21 manager Scot Gemmill is thrilled after watching the Liverpool winger terrorize Spain in his first start for the team in Monday night’s UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifier.

“It was an exceptional performance from Ben Doak. I would also add that you can expect more from him. He is not fully fit at the moment due to his limited playing minutes, because he plays for such a good club.”

“I thought it was a really good performance and I hope everyone saw it.”

The fact that Gemmill doesn’t think the 17-year-old is fully fit has nothing to do with Klopp’s injury concerns.

Rather, it is a nod to the number of minutes the player has spent this season as he navigates the difficult line between the first team fringes and playing time with the academy.

With Mohamed Salah his main competition for a place on the right side of Klopp’s formidable attack for Liverpool this season, it is no surprise that Doak’s appearances have been limited.

Liverpool begin January transfer due diligence as race for £12m defender heats up

According to Football Insider, Liverpool are one of five Premier League clubs interested in PSV Eindhoven striker Johan Bakayoko and have even started doing due diligence regarding a potential transfer in January.

The Reds were tentatively linked with a move for Bakayoko in August but the Reds decided not to strengthen their front line with Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez all at Anfield.

But with Al-Ittihad launching a charm offensive to lure Salah to the Saudi Pro League in 2024, Football Insider suggests the Reds could move for the Belgium international towards the end of the year.

The 24-year-old, who was close to a move to Brentford last month, is under contract at the Philips Arena until 2026.
