More informationNew signing Trey Nyoni scored a hat-trick in his first home game for Liverpool as the Under-18s stormed to a friendly victory against Southend United.

Marc Bridge-Wilkinson’s young Reds reached double figures with a 10-0 win in a friendly played at the Academy in Kirkby on Friday.

Highly rated midfielder Nyoni, who turned 16 in June and is an England U16 international, arrived from Leicester City last month and made his debut alongside new centre-back Amara Nallo in the 6-1 Cup defeat Premier League at Crystal Palace last weekend.

His hat-trick against Southend was completed by braces from Ranel Young – playing his first game of the season – Kareem Ahmed and Afolami Onanuga, with Wellity Lucky also scoring.

“It was a very nice performance and we played very well,” Bridge-Wilkinson told Liverpool FC.com.

“We scored some excellent goals and it was nice to see that the work done on the pitch paid off.

“Trey scored his first goals in the red shirt, he will take a lot from it and it was great to have Ranel back.

It’s also fair game for Southend United. They never gave up even with a high score, they continued to work hard and we thank them for coming to Kirkby.”
