Is a switch from Nike to Adidas on the way for Tennessee
While there has been a ton of discussion about the new NIL law in Tennessee, with some people calling for the Vols to be kicked out of the SEC, there’s another major topic of discussion on the table. That’d be the potential switch from Nike to Adidas for the Vols once the current deal expires.
We don’t have to tell you that a lot of Tennessee fans are not too happy about the days of Nike potentially being a thing of the past. They’re not the only ones, as in a bit of a stunning move, several Tennessee football players posted on social media pretty much calling out the idea of Adidas taking over being a complete and total nightmare:
Tennessee players are not thrilled at all about a possible Adidas deal
Tell us how you really feel, fellas. Travis Smith, Kaleb Beasley and Ethan Utley all didn’t hold back with their thoughts. Something tells us this same feeling is shared across the locker room. As things stand, the current deal with Nike indeed ends in 2026 – it originally took over for Adidas after 2014.
Negotiations are still ongoing, but if nothing changes with Nike, then this will be the last football season where the famous swoosh is showcased on a UT jersey. Per the Knoxville News Sentinel, the contract will officially expire on June 30, 2026.
Would this open the door for Adidas or someone else to step in and sign a new deal? Of course, but things are totally up in the air right now. Josh Heupel and his coaches have other things to worry about, as the Vols are hoping to get back to the College Football Playoff this year after doing so in 2024.
There’s going to be a new look on both sides of the ball, including quarterback Joey Aguilar expected to take over the offense, although Heupel is yet to make a final decision there. Soon enough, we should have more answers on this whole Adidas-Nike debate, but the reactions from the young football players must be something Danny White is paying attention to.
