Graham Norton Slams Bill Bailey’s Statement: Why He Got Rid of His Skullet, From Barbecue to Barber Queue
Comedian Bill Bailey revealed a fiery tale behind his decision to finally cut off his iconic “skullet” during his appearance on The Graham Norton Show. Bailey shared the comical yet near-death experience that led to the chop, saying, “I was on a hiking holiday this summer, leaning over a barbeque, and my hair caught on fire. I think the universe was telling me it was time.” Bailey then humorously added, “The other day, someone came up to me and said, ‘You look just like Bill Bailey, but younger.’”
Bailey, known for his witty commentary and deadpan humor, also discussed his latest memoir, My Animals, and Other Animals. “It’s a memoir of sorts but not in the traditional way,” he explained. The book recounts episodes from his life, focusing on the animals he has encountered over the years. One particularly memorable story from the memoir involves a jaguar encounter in Brazil, where a language barrier led to a near-mishap. “A guy told me, ‘Always approach from the front,’ but then, as I was walking towards the jaguar, he said, ‘Oh, sorry, never approach from the front. My English is not so good!’”
Springsteen also discussed his involvement in the upcoming biopic Deliver Me from Nowhere, which chronicles his life in the early 80s. On actor Jeremy Allen White, who portrays him in the film, Springsteen shared, “This is not easy to do because you can’t do an imitation; you have to do a personal interpretation. It’s difficult, but he is a great actor and sings pretty good.”
Amy Adams joined the conversation to promote her comedy-horror film Nightbitch. Describing the film’s unique tone, Adams said, “Our director called it a comedy for women and a horror for men.” She explained how the film explores themes of motherhood and identity, with her character embracing a wild side to rediscover joy outside of societal norms.
Adams also recounted a humorous incident while filming, where a pack of trained dogs turned on her during a scene. “One of the dogs wasn’t having it. They all came at me, but it was fine. I grew up in Colorado, so I know how to handle animals.”
The final guest of the evening, Vanessa Williams, spoke about her role in Elton John’s The Devil Wears Prada musical. Williams expressed her excitement about the songs Elton wrote for her and discussed the challenge of taking on the iconic role of Miranda Priestly, previously portrayed by Meryl Streep. “I bring the character to life with singing and dancing. People who loved the film won’t be disappointed.”
Williams also reflected on her groundbreaking moment as the first Black Miss America, sharing how it changed her life but also presented challenges. “Being seen as a beauty queen negated any intellect or talent I had. It took me 10 years to prove myself on Broadway because nobody took me seriously.”
The episode, packed with laughs, stories of near-disasters, and reflections on life and career, was a hit with audiences.
