Report: Collingwood on race to land Dan Houston from Port Adelaide amid player trade wish

Dan Houston Informs Port Adelaide of Trade Wish, Eyes Move to Victoria

Port Adelaide star Dan Houston has reportedly expressed his desire to leave the club and return to Victoria, despite having three years remaining on his contract. According to 7 Adelaide reporter Josh Money, Houston has informed Port Adelaide of his trade request but has not yet specified a preferred destination.

The 27-year-old defender is said to be attracting significant interest from several AFL clubs, including Collingwood, Carlton, Melbourne, North Melbourne, Geelong, Hawthorn, and St Kilda, all of which are eager to strengthen their rosters ahead of the 2024 season.

Collingwood is believed to be Houston’s top choice, but no formal nomination has been made. His versatility and strong defensive skills have made him one of the most sought-after players in this year’s trade period. Houston has been a key figure for Port Adelaide since his debut in 2017, playing 142 games for the club.

Houston’s decision comes as a surprise to many, given his crucial role in Port’s defense and their push for premiership success. However, the pull of returning to Victoria, where he began his football journey, may have factored into his decision.

As trade talks intensify, Houston’s future is expected to become clearer in the coming weeks, with clubs vying for his signature in what could be one of the biggest moves of the 2024 AFL trade period.
