Pogačar’s manager, Mauro Gianetti, has revealed that the Slovenian has had his sights set on winning the World Championships for a long time, and this year’s course is well-suited to his strengths.
Since securing his latest Tour de France victory in July, Pogačar has been focused on the World Championships, meticulously preparing for the 273-kilometer race that features a series of challenging climbs. “He’s been thinking about the world title for a long time, but this year is perhaps the first time the course really suits him,” said Gianetti in an interview with Cycling News. “Tadej is in great shape. After the Tour, he worked incredibly hard. He sacrificed much of his personal life this year, training at altitude and dedicating himself entirely to being at his best for the World Championships.”
Pogačar, known for his explosive riding style and versatility, is also seen as a contender in a sprint finish if the race comes down to a small group. “Tadej is fast in a sprint too, especially after a grueling 273-kilometer race,” Gianetti added. “He can win against anyone in that scenario, which is a big advantage.”
