Breaking News: Austin FC Fires Josh Wolff – Time to Move On

Austin FC has officially parted ways with head coach Josh Wolff after a series of disappointing performances and mounting pressure. The final blow came after a 1-0 loss at home to the Houston Dynamo, which all but eliminated the team from the MLS Cup Playoffs. The loss marked the end of a frustrating chapter for the club, as fans and critics alike began calling for change.

Wolff, who has been with Austin FC since its inception in 2021, leaves behind a record of 44 wins, 59 losses, and 29 ties across nearly four seasons. While he led the team to the Western Conference Final in 2022, it wasn’t enough to erase years of mediocrity and missed opportunities.

In recent games, including those against Toronto and LAFC, Austin FC played well enough to win, but struggled with poor finishing and misfortune. After the loss to Houston, Wolff’s frustration was clear:

“In order to win games, we’ve got to score goals. And it gets old. It gets old for you guys. It certainly gets old for me as well,” he said.

However, with a new sporting director, Rodolfo Borrell, and a fanbase growing indifferent, the club decided it was time to cut ties. Austin FC 1.0, which represented the club’s early and exciting days, is over. The focus now shifts to the future—Austin FC 2.0, with a new vision, new leadership, and the hopes of becoming a winning team.

Wolff was under contract through 2025, but ownership’s decision reflects a commitment to finding success, regardless of the financial costs. The club may look to interim options, like assistant coach Davy Arnaud, while a permanent replacement is sought.
