Texas Longhorns already talking about Michigan Wolverines clash – report

The reigning national champions, Michigan, will provide an early and formidable test for the 2024 Texas Longhorns. Despite significant roster changes, the Wolverines remain a powerhouse.

While a loss in Ann Arbor wouldn’t spell disaster with the 12-team playoff format, it would dampen the Longhorns’ excitement. However, a win could set Texas up for a serious run at the national title.

Steve Sarkisian on Texas’ Week 1 Performance

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian reflected on the team’s start, saying, “We (still) have to play better. I don’t think there’s a coach in America who’s going to say, ‘Hey, we’re good enough to win a championship’ right now … But this was a good start.”

Sarkisian on Michigan’s Roster

Regarding the challenge ahead, Sarkisian acknowledged, “Going to Michigan is a heck of a challenge. Everyone points out that they lost 13 draft picks. Well, we lost 11 too, right? And people still say we’re a pretty good team. Good programs reload. Michigan has been to the College Football Playoff three years in a row, and they finally won it last year. They’ve got a heck of a team and a heck of a roster.”

Texas QB Quinn Ewers on Facing the Champs

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers expressed his eagerness for the upcoming game: “We’re all excited to get up there and play against the defending national champions. We’re excited for the opportunity, and fired up to see how we handle this week.”

Texas DB Jahdae Barron on Michigan

Defensive back Jahdae Barron shared his focus: “I’m dialed in tonight. I’ll be watching those guys. They’re the defending champs. They’re going to bring it, and we have to make sure we bring our best. It starts now, not on Monday. Preparing today, taking care of our bodies, all of it matters.”

Texas LB David Gbenda on the Challenge

Linebacker David Gbenda spoke about the environment they’re about to face: “Michigan is a great program with a lot of tradition, and they’re bringing back a lot of talent. It’s going to be a great game, and I know they’re going to be just as fired up as we are. The level of preparation is going to have to be detailed, but Coach Sark and the staff will have us ready.”

Steve Sarkisian on the Team’s Readiness

Sarkisian was impressed with his players’ mindset after the Colorado State game: “In the locker room, they were already talking about preparation. They were doing team recovery—cold tubs, icing—they didn’t want anyone just walking out. They’re getting themselves ready to go.”
