USA Truck, a struggling truckload carrier, reported a second-quarter net loss of $3.5 million, reflecting a 6.8 percent decline in revenue year-over-year to $129.6 million. This loss is the lowest the company has experienced in the past four quarters and marks a 29 percent improvement from the $4.9 million net loss reported in the first quarter.
Despite this improvement, the company’s financial performance has deteriorated compared to the same period last year, when it posted a $598,000 profit. The company seemed poised to make strides in reorganizing its freight network at that time.
USA Truck has been grappling with profitability issues for years, with losses reported in each year since 2008. Specifically, the company lost $7.2 million in 2009, $3.3 million in 2010, and $10.8 million in 2011. The challenges faced include issues with unmanned trucks and inefficiencies in its network.
