Breaking news: Governor Alia has made a shocking announcement that has stunned Benue.

 

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has urged unions, groups, and individuals intending to participate in the planned nationwide protest on August 1, 2024, to reconsider their decision within the state. He encouraged them to present their demands and allow the government an opportunity to address their concerns.

Governor Alia made this appeal on Sunday, July 28, 2024, shortly after Mass at the Chapel of Grace, Government House, Makurdi.

Unidentified groups across Nigeria have slated August 1, 2024, for demonstrations, citing hardship and poor governance as their reasons. Addressing this issue, Governor Alia emphasized the importance of shelving the planned protest in Benue State, stressing that the current administration is committed to improving the lives of its citizens.

He commended the State Commissioner of Police, CP Hassan Yabanet, and the Department of State Services (DSS) for their proactive measures, including inviting union leaders and groups for a roundtable discussion. He praised their efforts in discouraging participation in the protest, especially after the government uncovered plans by some individuals to infiltrate the demonstrations and cause destruction.

Governor Alia also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support of Benue State. He noted that the ongoing projects across the state are a direct result of the president’s backing.

Regarding the crisis in Ukum, the governor described it as unfortunate. He stated that a Commission of Inquiry has been established to investigate the situation and that the government will take appropriate action once the committee submits its report. He called on the people to prioritize the peace of the state.

Governor Alia blamed politicians in Abuja for contributing to the continued militia attacks in Ukum. He assured the people of Benue that insecurity will soon be a thing of the past and commended security agencies for their efforts in securing the state. He urged them to remain vigilant, emphasizing that security is the responsibility of every citizen.

Finally, Governor Alia thanked the leaders and congregants of the Government House Chapel for organizing prayers for the government and the people of Benue State. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to delivering on its mandate.
