Fall River Man Fatally Stabbed in Brockton Park

 

BROCKTON — A Fall River man was fatally stabbed inside a park in Brockton on Saturday evening, officials said.

Brockton police received several 911 calls reporting a stabbing inside Finnegan Park, located at the corner of Crescent and Montello streets, around 6:13 p.m.

“Upon arrival, Brockton police officers located a male victim, and he was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was pronounced dead of his injuries,” the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office said in a written statement.

Brockton and State Police are investigating the fatal stabbing that occurred in Finnegan Park on Saturday, July 20, 2024. The victim has been identified as 39-year-old Edmar Goncalves, of Fall River.

The DA’s office announced that Johnny Richmond, 36, has been arrested in connection with the stabbing. The charges were not immediately released.

“Brockton Police contacted Massachusetts State Police troopers assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and an investigation commenced,” the DA’s office said. “The investigation is active and ongoing, but preliminarily, this does not appear to be a random act of violence.”

Richmond is expected to be arraigned Monday in Brockton District Court.
