Prime Minister Christopher Luxon attended a memorial ceremony commemorating the 13th anniversary of Christchurch’s devastating 2011 earthquake. The 6.3-magnitude quake resulted in 185 fatalities and extensive damage, including the collapse of the CTV building on Madras Street. During the ceremony, attendees stood silently with bowed heads by the Avon River as the names of the victims were read aloud and a bell tolled. Luxon and Christchurch Mayor Phil Mauger laid a wreath at the Canterbury Earthquake National Memorial, while people released cut flowers into the river.
