Report: West Ham plot bargain £8.5m move to sign 29-yo to compete with 4th biggest ever signing

West Ham are eyeing up a bargain deal for a midfielder to provide cover for Edson Alvarez in the January transfer window.

The January transfer window will be an absolutely vital one for West Ham boss David Moyes, with numerous additions required.

One of the main positions where the Scot needs to strengthen is defensive midfield, with more competition and cover required for Hammers star Edson Alvarez.

The 26-year-old has proven to be a key player for us since moving to the London Stadium from Ajax in the summer, but he worryingly admitted recently that he’d be open to a move to Bayern Munich at some point in the future.

I’m sure he’ll stay at West Ham for at least another couple of years or so, but even if he doesn’t, Moyes needs to bring in someone to challenge him for his spot.

And it seems as though that’s exactly what the Hammers boss is planning to do…

According to a report from Tutto Atalanta, the Hammers want to sign £8.5 million rated Torino defensive midfielder Adrien Tameze this winter.

Whilst the 29-year-old is a decent player, I’m not sure that he’s good enough to take us to another level.

In 10 appearances for Torino this season, the Cameroonian has bagged two assists, and has averaged 1.7 interceptions, 0.8 tackles and 0.4 clearances per game (Who Scored).

Not the greatest stats for a defensive midfielder are they. I definitely don’t think he’s good enough to come in and compete with Alvarez, that’s for sure.

The Mexican, our fourth most expensive signing of all-time alongside Felipe Anderson, is a top-class player, and if he suffers an injury or is forced to sit out through suspension, we will really struggle.

In my opinion, Tameze is nowhere near good enough to come into the side and offer exactly what Alvarez does.

West Ham should steer clear of the Torino midfield in the January transfer window as far as I’m concerned.
